Natural Resources and Entrails of the Earth
The main wealth of Tatarstan is crude oil. The richest and
the most well-known oil fields are Romashkinskoye,
Nova-Yelkhovskoye, Pervomaiskoye and Bondyuzhskoye situated on
the south and south-east of the Republic.
For the whole period of exploitation the oil production in Tatarstan was totalled approximately by 2.6 billion tons. The Republic still possesses rich reserves of crude oil (0.8-0.9 billion tons) the bulk of which is concentrated in small and middle-sized deposits not developed yet. Together with oil, natural gas is also extracted. In main deposits of the Republic every ton of crude oil is accompanied by averagely 40 cubic meters of natural gas. In the regions beyond the Kama-river there are good opportunities for using of natural bitumens. Its deposits discovered on the territory of Tatarstan are estimated as 12.5 billion tons. Among the other fuel and power resources Tatarstan has reserves of peat, coal, brown coal and combustible shales. There are about 800 peat-bog in Tatarstan with total area of 35000 hectares. In the eastern part of the republic rather rich deposits of coal have been discovered. In the south-west of Tatarstan there are reserves of combustible shales which in future can be used in industry.
In the deposits of Permian formation there are huge layers of limestones, dolomites, gypsum and other sedimentary rocks which are very good building materials. The most powerful reserves are of sand and gravel mixture (246 million cu.m.), brick clay (73.5 million cu.m.), gypsum (72 million tons), limestone and dolomites (66 million tons), building stones (35.3 million tons), and building sand (45 million tons). Besides, in the territory of Tatarstan Republic there are several deposits of phosphorites, sandstones, mineral water, medical mud and some raw materials for cement works. |
