National bank

Tatarstan has two-level banking system, which includes the National Bank of the Republic of Tatarstan and commercial banks. Banking system of the Republic of Tatarstan is the part of the Federal Banking System, since the Republic uses the currency of the Russian Federation and carries out coordinated monetary policy.

The National Bank of the Republic of Tatarstan is included in the system of the Central Bank of Russia and is the leader of Tatarstan Banking System regulating commercial banks activities on the territory of Tatarstan.

At present, more than 30 commercial banks and 40 branches operate in the territory of Tatarstan. Among the biggest are commercial banks, set up on the basis of the former specialised state banks, a number of joint-stock commercial banks, which came into being for the last 3-4 years as a result of developing market economy.
