Kazan Motor-Building production association

The Kazan Engine Building Production Association manufactures practically the entire range of components for aircraft engines - from small fasteners and fixtures to large cast and welded housing and long shafts.

The metallurgical processing units produce blanks using advanced casting and forging methods, with subsequent mechanical, chemical and thermal treatment.

The Association's specializations include:

  • Heat resistant high quality alloys, especially nickel and cobalt alloys, air and vacuum casting with oriented macrostructure and high strength characteristics
  • Non-ferrous metal casting, especially casting of austenitic and martensitic stainless steels, dispersion-hadened in air and in vacuum. The Association's technical abilities can achieve high-quality castings up to 1 m in diametr, 0.3 m high and weighing up to 150 kg after the complete treatment process.
  • Casting of aluminium and magnesium alloys, especially large housings for central supports and drive gearboxes which have a complex internal structure of cavities. The weight of castings ranges from ten grammes to half a tonne.
  • The Association's use of electron-beam vacuum welding for the production of large steel, titanium and nickel alloy load-bearing units ensures that the welded joints have an even. The Association conducts comprehensive reconditioning work on elements of turbine vane binding flanges using soldering and surfacing processes in repairs on gas turbine engines. When reconditioning compressors in gas turbine engines, the Association corrects the clearences by plasma and detonation spraying of wear resistant coatings. Intricate parts, including, the vanes of gas turbine engines are shaped using die forging methods. Repaired articles are assembled on a production line, to which selected units and components are brought by an automated storage and retrievial system.
