Air transport

Local airlines connect 19 settlements of Tatarstan. Besides, the capital of the Republic and other large cities have air connection with 70 cities of Russia and other countries of CIS. "Tatarstan Airlines" company began schedule service and charter flights to Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Hungary, Germany, China and other countries.

Traffic volume (1993): passengers - 0.7 million, cargo - 2.82 thousand tons

But "Kazan" airport needs reconstruction. A tender for the best reconstruction project was held in 1993. It was won by French "Bouygues" company. The reconstruction will take about 5 years.

The reconstruction will provide reception of all kinds of aircrafts and their landing according to II and III categories, defined by ICAO international aviation organization. This will allow to fully satisfy the need in air trasportation not only for Tatarstan, but also for some other republics in Volga region as well as promote an extension of links between European countries and South-East Asia.
