(Ufa, 27 September - 03 October 2000)

International Conferences "Modern Group Analysis (MOGRAN)" have not fixed
"registration" and are held in the different countries of the World (Chairman is Prof.
N.H.Ibragimov, RSA). The 8-th International Conference "MOGRAN 2000" took place in
Russia in Ufa State Aviation Technical University (UGATU). The conference was organized by:
- Joint Laboratory for Applied Group Analysis of Ufa State Avia-ti-on Technical University
and University of North West, South Africa,
- Russian Foundation of Fundamental Investigations,
- the Center for Differential Equations, Continuum Mechanics and Applications at University
of Witwatersrand,
- State Committee of Science of Bashkortostan Republic,
- Academy of Science of Bashkortostan Republic,
- Institute of Mathematics with Computer Center at the Ufa Scientific Center of the Russian
Academy of Science,
- Institute of Mechanics of Center at the Ufa Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of
Science,
- Federal goal-oriented Program "Integration",
- Ufa subsidiary of YuganskNIPIneft', Ltd.
The aims of the conference were to celebrate the World Mathematical Year 2000 by
focussing on the great challenges facing group analysts in the new millennium; to enlighten
researchers on the present state and to unite together leading scientists in this field.
The main topics of the conference were:
- classical symmetries, invariant solutions and group classification,
- equivalence transformations and their invariants,
- new trends in group analysis,
- boundary value problems,
- fluid mechanics and industrial modelling.
Among the participants of a conference there were the representatives of all Russian schools
of the group analysis of differential equa-ti-ons, and also scientists of Ukraine, German, Egypt
and South Africa.
The conference had very democracy spirit. Each participant had 30 minutes for presentation
and discussion. The atmosphere during discussing the reports was very amicable.
The scientific program of the conference have opened by the report Ibragimov N.H.
"Discussion of Lie's nonlinear superposition theory", devo-ted to some historical aspects of a
problem of existence of functio-nally independent invariants for a ordinary differential
equations set.
The part of the reports was devoted to conventional problems of the group analysis. The
reports of Ibragimov N.H., Khabirov S.V., Zhiber A.V. (Ufa), Baydulov V.G. (Moscow), Lunin
N.V. (N. Novgorod), Senashov S.I.. (Krasnoyarsk), Chupakhin A.P. (Novosibirsk), Lahno V.I.
(Ukraine), Volkmann J. (German) etc. were devoted to group classification and other aspects of
the analysis of equations from different areas of a mechanics.
The new and non-traditional directions of the group analysis were submitted by the several
reports. In particular, the large group of the participants has devoted the presentations to the
approximate group analysis for set of equations with small parameter. The messages on this
theme were made by Baikov V.A., Gazizov R.K., Glagkov A.V. (Ufa), Kovalev V.F. (Moscow),
Mahomed F.M. (South Africa) etc.
The report of Ibragimov N.H., Svirshchevskii S.R. (Moscow) was devoted to
transformations of Lie - Backlund for ordinary differential equations. Zaitsev V.F. (St.
Petersburg) has informed about outcomes of the group analysis of the undetermined and
functional - differential set of equations. Titov S.S. (Ekaterinburg) has informed about the works
in the field of the polyalgebras theory. The report of Yakovenko G.N. (Moscow) was devoted
to the generalized principle of an invariance of a functional with parameter.
Yemelyanova I.S. (N. Novgorod) has told about the approaches used at the Nizhniy
Novgorod University in lecture course on the group analysis for students.
The author is grateful to Organizing Committee of the conference (Baikov V.A., Gazizov R.K.,
Gladkov A.V., Ibragimov N.H., Kusimov S.T. etc.) for the fine welcoming and financial support
of the participation.
