Academy of Aviation and Aeronautics Sciences (AAAS) is an inter-regional public organization, which was registered in Russian Ministry of Justice at the 26th of January, 1996 (certificate No.5657 after 26 January 1996). Originally it had 2 regional Divisions: Moscow and St.-Petersburg ones. A well-known scientist in fields of aviation structural strength and RAS Academician Ivan Filippovich Obraztsov was elected the First AAAS President. He is an initiator and a founder of AAAS.

The main purpose of the Academy is defined by its Rules: to save and to increase the achievements of Russia as a great aviation Power, to unit the efforts of scientific, design, industrial groups and the efforts of separate scientists and specialists.

Problems of the Academy.

1.      To assist in forming new scientific trends in fields of aviation and aeronautics, in solving scientific and technical problems, in developing new technologies according to the main trends of scientific research and state plans of economical, social and defensive development of Russian Federation.

2.      To distribute and to install new scientific achievements and technologies, to propagandize domestic achievements in fields of aviation and aeronautics.

3.      To take part in developing purpose-oriented programs in different parts of science in fields of aviation and aeronautics; to assist in introduction of the dual-application systems to the aviation; to research medical and biological and ecological problems, life-support systems and ergonomics problems.

4.      To take an active part in projects of aviation development programs' public expertise; to develop and hold a public expertise of concepts and projects of legislative acts in fields of aviation and aeronautics.

5.      To take part in development of effective conversion programs.

6.      To assist in development and improvement of education in fields of aviation and aeronautics; to publish scientific, popular scientific, teaching and methodical and memoirs literature, special and popular scientific journals.

7.      To organize scientists' reports and to hold scientific conferences, symposiums and seminars, to investigate scientific heritage of N.E.Zhukovsky and other pioneers of aviation and aeronautics and to develop their ideas.

8.      To communicate directly with domestic and foreign organizations, to participate in international conferences, symposiums, seminars.

9.      To organize discussions and to put forward some works in different competitions.

The Academy performs through its regional and scientific Divisions and through other structural subdivisions. Operations concerning coordination of all the structural subdivisions, supply with information and general management, are conducted by the Academy Presidium. The Regional Divisions are formed according to their territory. There are 6 of them at the moment: Moscow, St-Petersburg, Kazan (Kazan and Penza), Perm, Middle-Volga (Samara, Ulyanovsk, Saratov), Omsk.

Scientific Divisions (there are 9 of them) are formed according to their functional character: "Aeromechanics", "Aircrafts, tests and certification", "Aircraft engines and ground power plants", "Aeronautical engineering operating and maintenance", "Airborne complexes and systems", "Economics, restructuring and conversion", "Aeronautics", "History of aviation and aeronautics", "New technologies".

Center of science and technique, Independent consulting group "Modern Technologies" and Institute of aviation and aeronautics (educational subdivision) were created in the Academy structure. A Scientific Council was also formed.

Academy of Aviation and Aeronautics Sciences has a Publishing center and a publishing license and publishes a scientific and technical journal "News of Academy of Aviation and Aeronautics Sciences". Recently a monthly informational and analytical review in fields of aviation and engine building, established by Academy of Aviation and Aeronautics Sciences, International association of "Aviation Engine Building Unit" (AAEBU) and Moscow office of OS "Motor SICh", has been published. The Academy also is Co-Founder of international Russian-American scientific journal "Actual problems of aviation and aerospace systems: processes, models, experiment".

Academy of Aviation and Aeronautics Sciences conducts a large educational work. It organizes Scientific readings dedicated to N.E.Zhukovsky, K.E.Tsiolkovsky, B.N.Yuriev, V.F.Bolkhovitinov, S.A.Lavochkin, V.A.Semenov, V.P.Chkalov etc. The Readings dedicated to N.E.Zhukovsky and K.E.Tsiolkovsky transformed into annual scientific conferences. The scientific Divisions organize regular scientific seminars where the modern problems of aviation technique and technology are considered and the prospects for the development are discussed.

International scientific and technical conferences ("XXI-st century aviation", "The problems and prospects of engine building development in Volga region", "Engines of the XXI-st century", "The contribution of A.I. Mikoyan's development bureau's test pilots to the world aviation progress" etc.) are also organized. The Academy, its separate members and important specialists in fields of aviation took an active part in the organization.

Academy of Aviation and Aeronautics Sciences participates regularly in organizing and holding representative international aviation exhibitions and airshows: "Engines", "MAKS", which attract famous airline companies and corporations from all over the world.

The Academy's activities also include some other forms of participation in implementation of its problems. In particular, Aviation and Aeronautics Academy of Sciences among the other events during the current year organized and conducted a visiting (Design Bureau "Salyut") scientific session dedicated to new technologies of development, production and operating of aviation gas-turbine engines (GTE). The following reports were delivered at the session:

Development, production and operating the aviation GTE and industrial power plants according to CALS-technologies (Yu.S.Eliseev, General director of Design Bureau "Salyut", academician of AAAS, V.A.Poklad, Chief Engineer of Design Bureau "Salyut").

Perspective technologies in GTE production and professional training (V.V.Krimov, Deputy general director of Design Bureau "Salyut" in fields of scientific work, academician of AAAS).

Technology of permanent joints' creation in gas-turbine engines' production (V.A.Geikin, head of Scientific Research Engine Institute of Design Bureau "Salyut", academician of AAAS).

Actual problems of technical diagnosing of aviation GTE (E.A.Konyaev, department head in MSTU of Civil Avation, corresponding member of AAAS).

The listed issues do not exhaust all the aspects of Academy's diverse activities but only concretize RAS Academician I.F.Obraztsov's idea, expressed in the main purpose and reflected in the Rules.
