In this paper a method is presented for the design of an indirect adaptive fault-tolerant flight control system for accommodation of multiple control effect or failures. The method is based on a convenient parameterization of the failures and suitable representation of the overall system. Such a representation and a control law with adjustable parameters yield an error model similar to that encountered in standard adaptive control. Based on a suitably chosen adaptive observer, it was shown that the corresponding adaptive laws result in a globally bounded closen-loop system in which asymptotic convergence of the output errors to zero is guaranteed.
