Trends and Outlook for Airships' Development A.N. Kirilin AEROSTATICA Aeronautical Enterprise 121614 Moscow, Krylatskaya ul., 31-1-315, RUSSIA Tel. 7 095-158-4818, Tel/Fax 7 095-415-46-30 The areas of aerostatic flying vehicles applications; trends and perspectives of development are discussed. Joint projects of “Aerostatica” Company and Moscow Aviation Institute are presented. Special joint Program includes three stages. Within first stage two small-sized single-seated airships - A-01 and A-02 are built. The first of them, designed according to the contract with MoD's Aeronautical service, was successfully tested in a piloted version in Kubinka Airfield near Moscow in1994. In 1997 the A-01 flight control system was perfected. Now it can be remotely piloted. A-02 ("Aerostatica-02") is a modification of A-01: its volume and thrust to gross mass ratio doubled. A-02 was flying in the two International Aerospace Shows MAKS-95 and MAKS-97. In 1997-1999, for the first time after a 50-year brake A-02 performed advertisment and demonstration flights over Moscow, participated in the Aviation Parade, Tushino Airfield, Moscow, 1999. It also flew from Moscow to Nizhnyi Novgorod and back, participated in shooting two feature films of "Mosfilm Studio". The second stage envisages realization of a multifunctional semi-rigid airship A-300 (volume 2993 cu m). It's being designed with the participation of the Government of Moscow. Its main merits: high reliability, a relatively low price, low operation cost (120 -140 $ per h), minimal ground crew (1-2 persons) for take-off and landing operations. A-300 can take-off, fly and land using any one of its three engines. Ground operation envisages its mechanized mooring to one of the three devices: a high or short mooring mast and a special ground anchor. The main arrangement of its gondola includes 8 passenger seats. The flying vehicle is to fly day and night; it's controlled by one pilot and fly-by-wire system. For training pilots it's equipped with the second pilot seat. The first A-300 flights are being planned for the beginning of the year 2001. The third stage. "AEROSTATICA" Aeronautical Enterprise has a solid scientific, designing and technological background , as well as KNOW-HOW concerning rigid airships with great payloads. It concerns, in particular, BR-7000 project). The latter is a multidecker tourist airship, offering its passengers many conveniences. The elaboration of the airship new type of a larger volume (100 ths cu m) is worked out in two modifications: a transport one (payload £ 40 t) and a multidecker tourist version for continental travels and round-the world-cruises. It is perspective variants.
