EXPEDIENCY
of construction of the International Scientific and Production Medical Centre for Leukemic Children Treatment in the Republic of Tatarstan
.
.

At present, the world market for leukemic treatment services has been formed. The services are mostly provided by the most developed countries - the USA, the United Kingdom, Japan and some European countries. Because of high prices that market is inaccessible for patients of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and other CIS countries.
Nowadays, a hidden revolution proceeds in the medical services area in Russia. To gain an adequate place, the Republic or Tatarstan possesses the appropriately high scientific and technological potential and high-skilled medical personnel. The Republic of Tatarstan enjoys a favourable political and interethnic situation, as well as advantageous geographical and climatic conditions.
Commercially, the International Scientific and Production Medical Centre for Leukemic Children Treatment (hereinafter, the CENTRE) would be able to provide Tatarstan, the Russian Federation and other ex-USSR states with remedies and medical services. The services area could later be expanded to Arab Middle East region as well.
Today, world prices for human marrow transplantation are fixed at level of $US 100,000-150,000. Simple arithmetic calculation reveals that medical expenses for 10 leukemic children treatment abroad would be about $US 1.5 million, accordingly for 1,500 children about $US 200 million. That is the sum would be required for the CENTRE’s construction. Siting the CENTRE in the Republic of Tatarstan is also favoured by low land prices and moderate medical services prices.
The idea of the CENTRE’s construction has been approved by M.Shaimiev, the President of the Republic of Tatarstan; it has also been authorized by the government of the Russian Federation (directive No.V4-P12-01914 on January 23, 1994).
Importance of the CENTRE according to modern high-tech town concept was backed up by the Russian Federation President’s decree of November 9, 1997, concerning "naukograd" (town of science).
