Energy supply of the Republic is formed by oil extraction, oil gas recovery and electric energy production. Total capacity of power stations amounts to 6.9 million kW; the biggest among them are Zainsk power station (2.4 mil kW)-the mightiest in the Volga region, and Nizhnekamsk hydroelectric station (1.25 mil kW). Energy production per capita makes 8.600 kW/h. The Republic exports 9/10 of the extracted oil and 1/3 of electric power. In its turn, Tatarstan imports mineral coal and natural gas from different regions of Russia.
